We started our very first writers’ workshop this week. The aim of the writers’ workshop is to learn the process of writing: collecting ideas, producing drafts, re-reading, editing/perfecting and finally publishing a creative piece of work. The first few writing workshops will focus on how good writers collect ideas. We read some Roald Dahl together and connected his stories to our own memories. This is because good writers get ideas from other books. We then jotted these ideas in the back of our new writers notebooks.

Today we took in memorable objects, this is because good writers can become inspired by meaningful objects or mementos! We then started to write our first drafts in our new notebooks based on the ideas we collected. One exciting idea came from a piece of volcanic rock taken from Pompeii and promised to develop into an exciting time period drama! I look forward to reading the other ideas and developing stories over the next few weeks!
