Friday’s Challenge: A Famous Person I admire with a Growth Mindset
During the week we talked more about the importance of having a growth mindset and talked about some famous people who had a growth mindset. For example, Messi who plays for Barcelona. He had a growth mindset when he was young, because he didn’t let the fact that his coaches thought he was to short stop him from developing his game.
Here’s a reminder of what it means to have a growth mindset:
Over the weekend I would like you to pick a famous person who showed a growth mindset by over coming an obstacle. Then I want you to practice our commenting skills by leaving a comment below about a famous person you admire for having a growth mindset.
Follow these steps:
1. First, remark on the last comment made by someone in our class and mention what you like about the famous person they chose to mention.
2. Name your favourite person and state how they showed a growth mindset.
3. Reread your comment to make sure it makes sense and that the spelling/punctuation is correct.
I will start so follow my commenting example.
The post mentioned Lionel Messi as a person who showed he had a growth mindset. I feel that Messi is a great example of a growth mindset as he had to train hard everyday to develop his skills and fitness to become one of the greatest footballers in the world.
I think one of the best examples of a famous person with a growth mindset is Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs had a passion for computers and technology but he had dropped out of college and had no money, but he didn’t let this stop him. With the help of his friend he created the first personal computer in his garage. Soon companies gave him money to build more. He was then able to start his own company: Apple.
After a while however, Apple weren’t selling that many computers and Steve was thrown out of his own company. Again he learned form this. He started a new computer company and helped start ‘Pixar,’ film studios. The studio eventually released Toy Story and made millions of dollars. Soon Steve had enough money to buy back the Apple company. He and his company then went on to create the Apple Mac, Ipad and IPhone, some of the best selling goods in the world.
I feel that he is a brilliant example of having a growth mindset because he didn’t let any obstacles or set backs stand in his way.
I agree with Mr Dawson .He is right about Steve jobs he has a great growth mindset !!!!
Now my famous person is Lionel messi because he did not let his coaches get to him.
But look at him now he is the best player in the world 😀😀😀
Stephen Spielberg is a famous movie director,I admire him because he is dyslexic which means he has difficulty understanding and reading letters and words.
This would be very hard for him to read scripts and make them into movies.
He only discovered that he had dyslexia in 2007.
He must have a very positive mindset because he didn’t let the fact that it was hard for him to read which is a skill that a director would need.
I admire this man because he made brilliant movies such as <3 Star Wars <3,
which are my favourite movies.
Never let anything hold you back from doing anything you love doing!!!
ROAN,
Super choice Roan! Many successful people such as Spielberg and even Einstein were dyslexic, but they did not let that stop them from achieving the things they wanted.
I agree with Louise and Roan about Messie and Stephen they both succeeded well in there lives.
Walt Disney I would have to say I admire. Disney was fired from the Kanas City Star in 1919 because , his editor said ,he” Lacked imagination and had no good ideas”. I am sure you will agree with me when I say his imagination was great. I have enjoyed many Disney movies over the year’s, as I’m sure most of ye have as well. If ye are told to stop what ye are doing, try something else, don’t Keep trying you will succeed if you put your mind to it. ☺
Bryan excellent choice in Walt Disney and excellent commenting skills.
I got my second pet on sumdog you don’t get to keep your first pet
Well done Bryan,I guess you worked hard to get it.
I pick Messi because he did not let the coaches get to him and is now the best player in the world.
Good choice Neil! Messi seems to be many people’s favourite!
I agree with Bryan Walt Disney in a excellent exsample of a growth mindset.
My famous person with a growth mindset is Neymar jr who plays soccer for Barcelona.
The reason I think Neymar has a great growth mindset is because when he was playing in the World Cup for his country Brazil he fractured two vertebraes in his back. That meant he couldn’t play for about five months.
But he wouldn’t let this get in his way. He kept going until his back was better again.
And now look at him running up the pitch destroying the defenders and popping the ball in the back of the net like his back was untouched!!!
Thanks for reading, MAITHIÚ
Excellent, I would have to agree with you there Maithiú, Neymar did very well to come back from injury so soon and return to form straight away!
I agree with Maithiú Neymar did great to recovery from his injury.
He sure does like Neymar.
My favourite growth mindset person is William Shakespear. He overcame a learning difficulty called dyslexia. Dyslexia is a condition when it is very difficult to read– letters look backwards or mixed-up. William Shakespeare was a brilliant growth mind set person[probably the best ever] poem and play writer. Try and imagine how you would feel if you couldn’t read and all you wanted to do is write.
Shakespeare is brilliantly growth minded and I admire how he got over his difficulty
TADHG
Some people think Shakespeare was dyslexic due to his peculiar way of spelling at times. If he was, he was truly remarkable for producing such fine work over his lifetime. He definitely had a growth mindset as one of his written quotes in ‘old English’ stated
“Our doubts are traitors
And make us lose the good,
We oft might win
By fearing to attempt”
Great choice Tadhg
I have to agree with BRYAN and I think Messi because he never gave up
I agree with Tadhg William Shakespeare is an excellent example of a growth mindset
My person/people would be the Beatles. After being rejected by decca recording studios who said “We don’t liketheir sound they have no future in the show business”. After that they went on to be at one stage be the best music band in the world .
STANLY KUBRICK : When this reowned film maker was growing up a diagnosis of Asperger’s
or even the broader label of autism was unlikely. Kubrick was born in 1928 with autism
was first given a name in the 40’s,making him a teen by the time there could of been a diagnosis. Many deceased celebritys, such as Einstien, Mozart and even Andy Warhol are now thout to have had autism spectrum disorder. Kubrick ,who directed 2001,Space Odyssey,a clockward orange and eyes wide shut, fit the autism spetrum,
He had poor socail skills, narrow and obsessive intrests, literal thinking, inflexability and more.
If aspergers helped make Kubrick who he was, and experts agree this likely,it was clearly a gift from the aartiatic world in this case.
hope you enjoyed my fairly long comment please reply. If don’t see ya!!!!!!!!
^_^
I agree with Bryan.Walt Diney is a great example of a growth mindset. My famous person with a growth mindset would be Mess I because he didn’t care about what anyone else said and now he plays for Barcelona.
I agree with Sorcha, Messi is a great example of a growth mindset.
My choice of a person with a growth mindset would have to be …..Katie Taylor!
Katie went through a lot when she was younger but you would not think that now.
